She expresses the emotional movements she experienced in her daily life in concrete forms such as
women, children and animals. At first glance, her works colored with wood carving are warm and
cute, but have a feeling of solitude and loneliness.
Tojo stated, “when I try to reach out to the feelings that were born in my daily life, I run away in no
time and sometimes it comes back like a wave. I would like to create a work that cuddles up to my
feelings while leaving such elusive feelings by scooping them up.”
The wood carvings born through dialogue with trees, which have a pale color as if they had sprung
out from her picture book, remind us of the memories of returning back to life and the emotions
accompanying them.
